He Will Rest in His Love

“The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.”

Zephaniah 3:17 · KJV

Be Still

Before the day begins to speak loudly, linger here: “The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty.” He is not standing at a distance from His people. He is present in their midst—strong enough to save, tender enough to rejoice, and peaceful enough to rest in His love.

Zephaniah has not ignored sin, sorrow, or judgment. Yet the book does not close with ruin. Its final song turns toward restoration. Zion is told to sing because the Lord has taken away her judgments, gathered the afflicted, dealt with oppressors, and promised to bring His people home. Into that setting comes this jewel: the Holy One not only rescues His people; He delights over them.

Behold Him

Behold the Mighty One who comes near. His strength is not cold or remote. The same God who saves also rejoices. The One whose voice commands creation is pictured singing over His restored people.

There are seasons when we carry the sound of our own striving: questions we cannot settle, duties we cannot finish, and fears that keep speaking after the room has grown quiet. This verse does not ask us to manufacture a feeling. It turns our attention toward the Lord Himself. He is in the midst. He is mighty. He will save.

Then comes the hush within the promise: “he will rest in his love.” His love is not anxious, uncertain, or reluctant. He does not need to be persuaded to be faithful. His covenant heart is steady. What He restores, He receives with joy.

What Does This Reveal About God’s Heart?

It reveals a heart that is both mighty and tender. Jehovah does not merely tolerate His people after restoration. He rejoices over them. He quiets what judgment and fear have disturbed, and He surrounds His redeemed with the song of His delight.

In Yeshua, we behold this saving heart drawing near. The Shepherd seeks the lost, receives the returning, and brings His people into the joy of His presence. We do not earn that nearness by perfecting ourselves. We answer His grace by returning, trusting, and resting beneath the love He has already revealed.

The Holy Place

Today, let the soul become quiet before Him. Lay down the need to rehearse every fear. Set aside the belief that you must hold everything together before you may come near. The Mighty One is already in the midst.

Listen by faith for the truth beneath the noise: the Lord is not absent, His love has not weakened, and His saving purpose has not forgotten you. His presence is not measured by the volume of your emotions. His character remains sure.

A Worshipful Prayer

Jehovah, Mighty One in our midst, we worship You. Thank You that Your strength is joined to mercy and Your holiness to steadfast love. Where fear has been loud, quiet our hearts beneath the truth of who You are.

Save, restore, and gather every place in us that has wandered. Teach us to stop striving for what only Your grace can give. Let us receive Your nearness with humility and answer Your joy with worship.

Yeshua, draw us close. Let Your love become the settled place of our hearts. May our lives rise like a song of gratitude before You, and may those who are weary discover that the Mighty One has not abandoned them.

In Yeshua’s bountiful name, amen.

A Stone of Remembrance

The Mighty One in our midst does not merely tolerate His people; He rests in His love and rejoices over them with singing.
