DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT

Come and Rest

“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

Mark 6:31, NIV

The apostles had returned to Jesus and were telling Him about their work. People kept coming and going, and they had scarcely an opportunity to eat. Jesus noticed. His invitation included their tired bodies as well as everything they had come to tell Him. Read Mark 6:30–34.

There is something tender about being noticed before we have found the words to ask for help. A meal missed. A long day of giving. The weariness we keep brushing aside because someone else still needs us.

Jesus saw His disciples in the middle of all that movement. He made room for rest in His care for them.

I linger over that invitation and think about how easily I can treat my own limits as an inconvenience. I finish one thing and reach for the next. Even when I sit down, my thoughts may still be standing at the door, ready to answer every demand.

Here is a place to bring that unsettled heart. We can tell Jesus about the work, the people we love, and the things we could not put right. We can receive a meal, accept someone’s help, and allow a quiet moment to remain quiet.

The passage continues with a crowd arriving ahead of them. Jesus meets those people with compassion. The day does not become perfectly undisturbed; His tenderness remains. His care for the crowd and His concern for His disciples belong to the same loving heart.

Lord, I love that You noticed they needed to eat. Help me receive that simple, bodily kindness. Teach me to recognize rest as something I may receive from Your hand.

Abba Father,

You know how a crowded day can follow me into a quiet room. I bring You the thoughts that keep circling and the responsibilities I am afraid to set down.

Help me receive the care You offer through ordinary things: food, sleep, a willing friend, a few unhurried minutes with You. When I am tired, let me speak honestly instead of pretending I have more to give.

Give me wisdom for what is mine to do today. Where I have reached my limits, help me ask for support. Hold the people I love as I entrust them to You.

May I also notice weariness in someone else. Let my love make room for their rest.

Thank You for welcoming us, even when we arrive with little strength and many unfinished things.

In Yeshua’s bountiful name, Amen.

My Stone of Remembrance: I can receive rest from the One who notices my weariness.
