The Wisdom in His Works

A blue and copper kingfisher perches over a clear woodland stream in golden light, framed by delicate parchment and olive leaves.

“in wisdom hast thou made them all:”

Psalm 104:24, KJV · excerpt

Be Still

A flash of blue above the water. A leaf turned toward the light. The sound of a bird we hear before we see it. There are small invitations to wonder all around us.

Let one of them slow us today. Before we name another need, we can lift our eyes and whisper, Lord, how beautiful are Your works.

Behold Him

Psalm 104 is a song of praise to the Lord who creates and sustains life. The psalmist follows springs through valleys, notices birds among branches, and looks toward the trees where they nest. He considers the rhythms of day and night, the hills, and the great sea with its countless creatures. Then his wonder becomes worship: “in wisdom hast thou made them all:” Read Psalm 104.

The psalm sees a world full of lives that depend upon God. It also acknowledges death and the frailty of creatures. Its praise has room for that truth. The Lord remains the source of life, and the singer offers Him the breath he has: praise for as long as he lives.

What Does This Reveal About God’s Heart?

God’s wisdom is wonderfully rich. We glimpse it in the variety of His works: water moving through a valley, shelter among branches, life flourishing in places we may never visit. His world is worth our attention.

How easily our days can become a list of things to finish. We pass familiar trees, hurry beneath the sky, and miss the small beauty beside us. This psalm gently teaches us to look again. A moment of noticing can become a moment of thanksgiving.

We do not need to make every bird or blossom into a hidden message. We can receive creation’s beauty with the simple gladness of a child and let Scripture direct our praise toward its Maker. You made this, Lord. Your wisdom is greater than I can take in.

Such wonder makes room for humility. We occupy a small place in a world filled with God’s works. We can delight in what He has made, care for what He entrusts to us, and remember that we too live by His gifts.

Beholding Christ

Colossians turns our eyes to Yeshua: all things were created through Him and for Him, and in Him all things hold together. The same passage leads us to the peace He made through the blood of His cross. The glory of the Creator and the love of the Redeemer meet in the One we worship. Read Colossians 1:15–20.

Yeshua, what wonder this awakens in us. The world belongs to You, and You entered it. You took on flesh, walked its dusty roads, and gave Yourself for our reconciliation. As we behold the works of Your hands, draw our hearts into love for You.

Worshipful Prayer

Abba Father, open our eyes to the beauty we have hurried past. Thank You for the richness of Your wisdom, for living things great and small, and for the breath with which we praise You.

Let gratitude rise in the middle of an ordinary day. Teach us to notice with delight, receive with humility, and care for Your creation with reverence. When our thoughts become crowded, give us a quiet moment of wonder that turns our attention toward You.

Yeshua, all things were made through You and for You. Let our lives find their purpose in belonging to You. Thank You for the peace of Your cross and the hope of Your resurrection. May our meditation of You be sweet.

In Yeshua’s holy, beautiful, wonderful, powerful name, Amen.

My Stone of Remembrance: I will let wonder become worship.
