TODAY’S BEHOLD
He Carried Thee
By Edward and Cynthia Best
Be Still
There are stretches of the journey when our strength feels smaller than the road before us. Scripture does not pretend the wilderness is easy. It gives us something better: a true remembrance of the One who carries His people through it.
“The LORD thy God bare thee, as a man doth bear his son.”
Deuteronomy 1:31, KJV (excerpt)
Behold Him
Moses spoke these words while recounting Israel’s journey from Horeb toward the land the Lord had promised. The people had seen the wilderness, the obstacles, and the enemies before them. Yet Moses asked them to remember something else they had also seen: the Lord had carried them “in all the way” until they came to that place.
This is not the picture of a distant God merely pointing out a road. It is the picture of a father stooping to lift his son. The child is still on the journey, but he is not left to cross it alone. The father feels the weight, watches the path, and holds him close.
What Does This Reveal About God’s Heart?
God’s care is personal. He did not only provide Israel with a destination; He accompanied them through the distance. He knew when they were weary, when the terrain was hard, and when fear clouded their memory of His faithfulness.
The next verse is sobering: even after being carried, the people struggled to believe the Lord. Their unbelief does not diminish His tenderness; it exposes how easily fear can make us forget what His hands have already done.
Today, we can remember without pretending. The burden may be real. The road may remain unfinished. But the Lord’s presence is not measured by how strong we feel. His faithfulness has been underneath us in ways we recognized and in ways we did not.
Beholding Christ
In Yeshua, we behold the Shepherd who does not abandon the weary. He entered our frailty, bore our sin, and gave Himself to bring us home. The One who calls us to follow is also the One who sustains us as we follow.
We do not have to turn our weakness into shame. We may bring it honestly to Him. The arms that carried His people through the wilderness have not grown short. His strength is sufficient, His compassion is near, and His presence remains faithful for all the way.
Worshipful Prayer
Abba Father, thank You for every road on which Your faithfulness has carried us farther than our own strength could have taken us. Forgive us for the moments when fear has made us forget Your care.
When we are weary, hold us close. When the way feels uncertain, help us remember that You see the whole path. Teach us to trust Your heart, receive Your strength, and rest without shame in Your keeping.
Let our remembrance become worship. You have carried us until this place, and we entrust to You every step still ahead.
In Yeshua’s beautiful name, Amen.
My Stone of Remembrance
The Lord has carried me farther than my own strength could have brought me.
