He Heard Them

He Heard Them devotional artwork showing manna and dew on a desert floor, a bowl, olive branches, and pearls. Exodus 16:12, NIV. By Edward and Cynthia Best.

“I have heard the grumbling of the Israelites.”

Exodus 16:12, NIV

Israel stood in the wilderness with empty stomachs and frightened hearts. Their words were tangled with longing, fear, and accusation.

Still, God heard them.

He promised meat at twilight and bread in the morning. When dawn came, the dew lifted and delicate flakes appeared upon the desert floor—the daily provision they would call manna. Exodus 16:2–15

There are moments when our prayers do not sound beautiful.

Weariness speaks. Fear interrupts. Yesterday begins to look safer than the unfamiliar place where God is leading us.

Yet He invites us to come near.

He knows the hunger beneath the sentence, the ache beneath the frustration, and the need we have not learned to express. His tender attention is not frightened away by our unfinished words.

Abba Father,

Thank You for hearing me when my heart is weary and my words are imperfect.

Meet me in the wilderness places where I cannot yet see how You will provide. Quiet the fear that makes yesterday appear better than the freedom into which You are leading me.

Give me grace for this day’s portion. Open my eyes to the mercies resting quietly before me, and teach my heart to recognize Your care.

May every provision draw me closer to You—the Giver who knows me, hears me, and remains near.

In Yeshua’s bountiful name, Amen.

My Stone of Remembrance: He heard the need beneath their imperfect words.
