The God Who Sees

“Thou God seest me”

Genesis 16:13, KJV · excerpt

Hagar was in the wilderness when the angel of the LORD found her by a fountain of water. She was away from the household she had known, carrying a child, and standing in circumstances she had not chosen. Yet the wilderness was not beyond the sight of God.

There, Hagar gave the LORD a name born from encounter: Thou God seest me.

What tenderness is held in those words.

We often think of being seen as being observed from a distance. But Scripture shows us something deeper. The God who saw Hagar came near. He addressed her personally. He knew where she had come from, and He spoke into what lay ahead.

God’s seeing is not cold surveillance. His attention is personal.

There are places in our lives that can feel hidden from everyone else: quiet obedience, unanswered questions, work no one notices, tears that never become public, or seasons in which we are unsure what comes next. Genesis 16 reminds us that hidden does not mean unseen.

Before Hagar could explain herself to the world, God knew where she was.

And notice where He met her: beside water in the wilderness. The landscape around her may have been barren, but His presence was not. The Lord was able to find her in a place that looked like interruption and speak there.

Perhaps today we do not need to make ourselves more visible. Perhaps we simply need to become still enough to remember whose eyes are already upon us.

Yeshua reveals this same heart. He noticed people others passed by. He saw Nathanael before Nathanael knew He was watching. He saw the widow. He saw the sick. He saw the hungry crowds. Again and again, His seeing became compassion, invitation, healing, and truth.

So today, lift your eyes. You are not praying toward an inattentive heaven. The One you seek already sees.

A Prayer

Abba Father, You are the God who sees. Thank You that no wilderness places me beyond Your attention and no hidden season makes me invisible to You.

Quiet the part of me that believes I must be noticed by people in order for my life to matter. Teach me to rest beneath Your gaze. See what needs healing, strengthen what has grown weary, and guide me in the way You would have me go.

Yeshua, let me behold Your heart today. Give me eyes that notice the overlooked and compassion that moves toward them, just as You do.

In Yeshua’s holy, beautiful, wonderful, powerful name, Amen.

My Stone of Remembrance: Even in the wilderness, I am never beyond the sight of God.
