MINISTRY IDENTITY

The Meaning of Behold Jehovah Ministries

The meaning and biblical foundation of our name.

Our name is an invitation to behold the LORD—to turn our attention toward Him, grow in our knowledge of Him, and serve others through His love. Each word expresses part of that purpose.

Behold

The meaning: To behold is to look, see, or give careful attention. In Scripture, the word behold frequently calls the reader or listener to stop and notice what follows.

The invitation: In our ministry name, Behold invites us to give God our attention with reverence, wonder, and a willingness to listen.

The biblical foundation: Isaiah 40:9 declares, “Behold your God!” Psalm 27:4 expresses the desire to behold the beauty of the LORD. John 1:29 directs our attention to Jesus as the Lamb of God.

Jehovah

The name: Jehovah is a traditional English form of God’s personal name in the Hebrew Bible, represented by the four Hebrew letters YHWH. These letters are often called the Tetragrammaton, meaning “four letters.”

The connection to Moses: In Exodus 3:14, God tells Moses, “I AM THAT I AM.” Verse 15 identifies Him as the LORD, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. This passage connects His name with His enduring presence and covenant relationship with His people.

The Hebrew background: The divine name is commonly connected with the Hebrew verb meaning “to be.” The statement in Exodus 3:14 can also be translated, “I will be what I will be.” Its full meaning carries more depth than any single English definition can express.

The devotional meaning: Christians commonly describe Jehovah as the eternal, self-existent, and faithful God. “The self-existent One” is a theological explanation rather than a word-for-word translation. Exodus 3:12 also places His promise—“I will be with you”—at the heart of His encounter with Moses.

Jehovah and Other Familiar Forms

Yahweh: Yahweh is the pronunciation many scholars consider closer to the ancient form of YHWH. Jehovah is the established English form used in our ministry name.

How Jehovah developed: The spelling developed through a tradition that combined the consonants of YHWH with vowel markings that reminded readers to say Adonai, meaning “Lord.” It later entered Christian usage and the English language as Jehovah.

LORD in English Bibles: Many English translations print LORD in capital letters wherever the Hebrew text contains YHWH. Jehovah and Yahweh refer to the same divine name. The King James Version explicitly uses JEHOVAH in passages such as Psalm 83:18.

Ministries

The meaning: Ministry means service. In the Christian life, it includes serving God and caring for people through the gifts and opportunities He provides.

Our expression of service: For Behold Jehovah Ministries, this includes prayer, biblical teaching, devotional publishing, and outreach.

The biblical foundation: Mark 10:45 presents Jesus as the One who came to serve. First Peter 4:10 calls believers to use their gifts to serve one another. Second Corinthians 4:5 places Christ at the center and describes His servants as serving others for His sake.

The Meaning of the Whole Name

Behold: Turn your attention toward Him.

Jehovah: The LORD—the living and faithful God revealed in Scripture.

Ministries: Serve Him by serving others.

Together, our name expresses an invitation to behold the LORD, know Him through Yeshua, and allow that relationship to shape a life of worship, prayer, and loving service.

This is the ministry’s explanation of its name rather than a literal translation of a single Hebrew phrase.
